Alert Slips

One way to boost Houston police patrol in your area is to submit an Alert Slip. Citizens can use this to request increased patrols around their area for a prowler, speeding vehicles, excessive burglaries and thefts, being on vacation, or for reasons causing them concern. We encourage all residents to go online to the below web link.

The more active residents are, the more attention the area can potentially receive from law enforcement. Please copy & paste this in your browser if the link doesn’t work:  https://citizenalert.houstonpolice.org/

Home Security Tips

Below are a few helpful safety tips.  Please remember to report any suspicious person(s) or activity to the police immediately!

  • Be Prepared:  Always keep your cell phone with you when walking the property.

  • Lock it up:  Change all the locks when you move into a new house. Lock your home, even if you go out only for a short time. Many burglars walk in through an unlocked door or window. Never leave a house key in an obvious place.

  • Alarm Systems:  Activate your system.  For the most effective alarm system, conceal all wiring.  A professional burglar looks for places where they can disconnect the security system.  Make sure your alarm company call back list is always up to date.

  • More light/less crime*:  Leave your outside light(s) on at night - front door, back door & carport.  Well-lighted areas statistically have less crime.  Install additional motion detector lighting in your carport area*.

  • Visual Recording*:  Security cameras have gotten more affordable.  They can record activity at the front door, back door and carport. Mount them high enough to not be defeated easily*.  Be sure you cannot “see” into other people’s property.

  • Mail & Messages  Be cautious about posting upcoming travel plans on social media.  Don't leave notes for service people or family members on the door. Consider stopping your mail if you are going to be gone for an extended period of time.

  • Don’t be a Hero: Contact local law enforcement and/or our Courtesy Patrol as soon as you notice anything odd or suspicious.

*Architectural Control Committee (ACC) approval is required BEFORE you install.  Contact the VV1 HOA Board or Genesis Community Management.

Vehicle Safety Tips

  • Be Aware:  Be aware of your surroundings.  If you suspect you are being followed, drive to the firehouse on Kempwood across from Walgreens or on Gessner near Westview. If anything looks suspicious in your carport area or private drive, contact our Courtesy Patrol.

  • Take, Lock, Hide:  Lock your vehicles. Lock your tool box on pick-up trucks. Set the car alarm and use any other anti-theft devices.  Completely close all windows and sunroofs.  Hide valuables before parking at your destination.  Do not cover valuables under jackets or behind seats.  Remove all valuables from the vehicle.  Do not leave anything in plain sight on seats or the floor; including coins, bags, small electronics, media, CDs, docking stations, cables, etc.

Citizens can use this form to request increased patrols around their home or business for a prowler, speeding vehicle, excessive burglaries and thefts, being on vacation, or for reasons causing them concern in the "other" box.
